¼ oz Fernet Branca
½ oz Averna
¼ oz Letherbee Malört
Combine ingredients in a shot glass. If you can’t find Malört, use equal parts of Averna and Fernet.

The next time you beach yourself like a whale at the bar after eating too much steak, bacon, oysters, and other tasty creatures, have The Shöt. Fifteen minutes later you will demand dessert and be ready to dance.
The combination is a bit of an alchemic paradox: you’ll either love or hate Fernet’s polarizing flavor of eucalyptus and bark. Averna’s sweeter herbal lightness evokes dark fruit and saffron. Chicago’s own Letherbee Malört (wormwood liquor) finishes just as bitter as the contentious original, but is much more charming with a lingering finish of floral anise and grapefruit pith. Add them all together and you get something like mint chocolate bitters.
